STP lodgement errors: SBR.GEN.AUTH.006 and SBR.GEN.AUTH.008

Both of these errors mean the same thing in practice: your Software ID (SSID) is not correctly registered with the ATO for Access ATO Gateway. To fix either one, return to Step 2 of the setup guide to register or correct your SSID in ATO Access Manager, then run the Send Test in Step 3 to confirm it is linked.

This article assumes you have already generated your SSID in Definitiv (Step 1). If you have not, start with Notify the ATO of your hosted SBR software service with Definitiv.

What the error means

SBR.GEN.AUTH.006: "A notification does not exist for your software provider"

No notification has been recorded in Access Manager for your software provider. This happens when the notification was never created, or was created against the wrong software provider. The ATO cannot see that Access ATO Gateway is authorised to lodge on your behalf.

SBR.GEN.AUTH.008: "Your notification does not contain the correct Software ID"

A notification does exist, but the Software ID saved against it does not match the SSID generated in Definitiv. Common causes are the SSID was not linked against the Intermediary ABN, a typo or an extra space when the SSID was entered, or a different SSID being entered by mistake.

How to fix it

1. Confirm the correct SSID in Definitiv

You need the exact SSID so you can compare it against what the ATO has on record.

  1. Go to Admin > Miscellaneous > STP Gateway Setup and open the SSID Registration step.

  2. Find the ABN that returned the error.

  3. Use the Copy button to copy that ABN's SSID.

Keep this value handy for the next step.

2. Return to Step 2 and register or correct your SSID

Sign in to ATO Access Manager with your myGovID, then select My hosted SBR software services.

If you received SBR.GEN.AUTH.006 (no notification exists):

  • Click Notify the ATO of your hosted service.

  • Search for and select ACCESS SOFTWARE AUSTRALIA PTY LTD (ABN 40 071 007 326).

  • Enter the SSID you copied from Definitiv, click Next, read the statement, and click Save.

If you received SBR.GEN.AUTH.008 (Software ID does not match):

  • Open the existing notification for ACCESS SOFTWARE AUSTRALIA PTY LTD (ABN 40 071 007 326).

  • Check the Software ID currently recorded against your SSID from Definitiv, character for character. Watch for typos, missing characters, and extra spaces.

  • Correct the Software ID so it matches exactly, then save.

A quick reminder on which ABN the SSID belongs to:

  • If your business lodges its own STP, register the SSID against the employer's ABN.

  • If a registered Tax or BAS agent lodges on your behalf via an Intermediary, the SSID must be registered against the agent's RAN and ABN, not the employer's ABN.

Registering the SSID against the wrong ABN is a common cause of both errors, so confirm this before you save.

3. Run a Send Test to confirm the link (Step 3)

We recommend always finishing with this check so you know the registration worked before your next lodgement.

  1. In STP Gateway Setup, click Next once all ABNs are ticked.

  2. Click Send Test.

  3. If the response is Verified, the SSID is correctly linked and you are done.

  4. If the response is still an error, the registration has not completed. Return to Step 2, recheck the Software ID and the ABN it is registered against, and try again.

Still seeing the error?

If the test still fails after you have confirmed the SSID and ABN are correct, try these checks:

  • Allow time for the ATO to process the change. Updates in Access Manager can take a short while to take effect. Wait a few minutes and run the Send Test again.

  • Confirm you searched for the correct provider. The provider is ACCESS SOFTWARE AUSTRALIA PTY LTD (ABN 40 071 007 326). If it does not appear in Access Manager, contact Definitiv support to confirm the exact name and ABN.

  • Register by phone if needed. If you cannot use Access Manager, phone the ATO on 1300 85 22 32. Have your proof of record ownership, your ABN (or RAN if you are a registered agent), the provider name Access ATO Gateway, and your SSID ready.

If you have worked through these steps and the error continues, contact Definitiv support with the error code and the affected ABN so we can investigate. Please provide a screenshot of the linked ABN in the Access Manager.
