Before your STP lodgements can be sent through Access ATO Gateway — Definitiv's new in-house Sending Service Provider - each unique ABN lodging STP events must have a unique Software Service ID (SSID) registered with the ATO. This tells the ATO that Access ATO Gateway is your Nominated Software Provider.
This article covers how to generate your SSID in Definitiv and then register it with the ATO Business Portal.
Before You Begin
Administrator access – You must have STP administration permissions in Definitiv to access the STP Gateway Setup.
ATO portal access – You (or your registered Tax/BAS Agent) will need access to the ATO Business Portal via myGovID with principal authority or authorisation administrator access in Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM).
Active ABNs – All ABNs you intend to lodge STP for must be active.
SSID Nomination
The below table can guide you on determining who is responsible for nominating the Software Service ID (SSID) in different operating scenarios.

Step 1 – Generate your SSID in Definitiv
Generation of all ABN’s can be done in one organisation.
Navigate to Admin, Miscellaneous, STP Gateway Setup and proceed to the SSID Registration step.
The organisations detected in your database are listed here.
For each ABN lodging STP events:
Verify the ABN details are correct. If incorrect, edit on Organisation Details or use the Edit option.
Click Generate All SSIDS or individually Generate SSID for that ABN. The SSID will appear in the table once generated.
If the ABN does not report to the ATO, you can click Exclude from STPUse the Copy button to copy the SSID, you will need it in Step 2 of this guide.
If an ABN no longer reports to the ATO, use the Exclude option to remove it from the migration.
Once all active ABNs have an SSID generated, proceed to register them with the ATO.
✅ Tip: You can return to this screen at any time to copy SSIDs for additional ABNs. Generated SSIDs are stored against your database. |
Step 2 – Register your SSID with the ATO
The method for registering your SSID with the ATO depends on who lodges STP for your business. Select the scenario that applies to you below.
Scenario 1 – STP events lodged by the employer
As an employer, there are two ways to notify the ATO of your SSID:
Option A – Update via ATO Access Manager (recommended)
You must be the principal authority or authorisation administrator in Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) to use this method.
Go to the ATO Access Manager page.
Click Login with myGovID and sign in using your myGovID credentials.
Select My hosted SBR software services from the left-hand menu.
4. Click Notify the ATO of your hosted service.
5. Search for ACCESS SOFTWARE AUSTRALIA PTY LTD (ABN 40 071 007 326) in the list.
6. Select the ABN link ACCESS SOFTWARE AUSTRALIA PTY LTD (ABN 40 071 007 326) from the list of software providers.
7. Using the copied SSID for that ABN generated in STP Gateway Setup, paste or enter the value in the Add Software Ids field and click Next.
8. Read the Notification statement and click Save.
9. Return to Definitiv and tick the checkbox for that ABN in the wizard to confirm completion.
10. Repeat for each ABN.
ℹ️ Note: If Access ATO Gateway does not appear in the software provider list, contact Definitiv support to confirm the exact registered provider name and ABN to search for. |
Option B – Phone the ATO on 1300 85 22 32
If you are unable to use Access Manager, contact the ATO by phone. Have the following ready:
Proof of record ownership (e.g. personal TFN, date of birth, address, or a recent ATO-generated notice)
Your Australian Business Number (ABN) or, if you are a registered tax agent, your Registered Agent Number (RAN)
The name of your software provider: Access ATO Gateway
Your unique SSID (generated in Step 1 of this guide)
Scenario 2 – STP events lodged by a registered Tax/BAS Agent
If a registered Tax/BAS Agent lodges STP on behalf of your business, the SSID must be linked to the agent's Registered Agent Number (RAN) and ABN — not the employer's ABN. The registered agent must log in to Access Manager using their own myGovID credentials and complete the following:
Step 3 - Confirming Registration in Definitiv
Once you have completed the ATO portal registration for all ABNs, return to the STP Gateway Setup wizard in Definitiv Admin, Miscellaneous, STP Gateway Setup.
Once all ABNs have been confirmed having the ATO Portal Setup click Next.
To check whether the SSID has been correctly linked, click on Send Test.
3. If the response comes back error, go back to Step 2 as the SSID has not been completed.
4. If the response comes back Verified, click on the Next button.
✅ You're all set for now. All ABNs have been successfully configured with SSIDs and verified in the ATO portal. STP lodgements will continue uninterrupted through the existing gateway. |
ℹ️ What's next? The final Activation step is currently being prepared. You will be notified when migration is ready to complete. For more information, see STP Gateway Migration – Access ATO Gateway Setup. |
Troubleshooting
Access ATO Gateway does not appear in the ATO Access Manager provider list
Confirm you are searching for the correct registered name. Contact Definitiv support to verify the exact provider name and ABN to search for in the ATO portal.
I have multiple ABNs and some are not showing in the wizard
ABNs that have previously been excluded from the wizard will not appear. Navigate to the SSID Registration step and check whether any ABNs were incorrectly excluded. Contact Definitiv support if ABNs are missing unexpectedly.
I see a banner in Definitiv saying my SSID registration is incomplete
Navigate to Admin > Miscellaneous > STP Gateway Setup. Confirm all active ABNs have a generated SSID and a ticked confirmation checkbox. Complete the ATO portal registration for any unticked ABNs and return to tick their checkboxes.
