This powerful feature helps streamline roster management by focusing only on relevant working days, reducing visual clutter and preventing accidental scheduling on non-working days.
Key Benefits
- Improved Focus: View only the days that matter to your business operations
- Reduced Errors: Minimize accidental scheduling on non-working days
- Enhanced Efficiency: Faster navigation and cleaner roster interfaces
- Customizable Views: Align roster displays with your organization's working patterns (5-day, 6-day work weeks, etc.)
How It Works:
Setting Up Day Exclusion
- Navigate to Roster Options - Either on the Team Rosters Page, select the Options button for the relevant Roster
- Or open your roster in Calendar view, then click on the Options button to open the options drawer

- Configure Excluded Days - Select the Calendar tab in the Roster Options drawer
- Use the Days to Exclude From View multi-select dropdown
- Choose the days of the week you want to hide from the roster view (Monday through Sunday)
- Selected days will be ordered Monday through Sunday automatically

Note: You can select anywhere from 1 to 6 days to exclude
The system prevents excluding all 7 days (as this would leave no roster to view)
3. Save Your Settings
- Click Save Changes to apply your exclusion settings
What Gets Hidden
When days are excluded, the following elements are hidden from view:
- Day Columns: Excluded days disappear from the Calendar view
- Roster Entries: All entries on excluded days (shifts, leave, work schedules)
- Totals: Column totals for excluded days are removed
- Row Headers: Grouping and total headers adjust to match visible periods
Important Notes
Data Preservation
- No Data Loss: Excluding days only hides them from view - all existing roster entries remain safely stored in the system
- Reversible: You can easily remove day exclusions to restore full visibility at any time
- Status Maintained: Roster entries on excluded days retain their original status (approved, pending, errors, etc.)
View Behavior
Calendar View:
- Excluded day columns are completely hidden
- Row lengths and totals adjust to visible periods only
- Navigation skips excluded days
- Print will exclude those days from the Print option
Day View:
- When navigating between days, excluded days are automatically skipped
- Forward/backward navigation jumps over hidden days
Import and Template Handling
Prevented Operations:
When days are excluded, the following import operations will NOT add entries to excluded days:
- Work Schedule imports
- Previous Period imports
- Template applications
Template Behavior:
- Roster templates respect day exclusion settings
- Templates won't create entries on days you've chosen to exclude
Publishing and Validation
Enhanced Publishing:
- Roster publishing focuses only on visible days
- Validation errors on excluded days won't block publishing of visible roster entries
- This allows you to publish clean rosters even if excluded days contain entries with errors
Best Practices
When to Use Day Exclusion
Ideal Scenarios:
- 5-Day Work Weeks: Exclude weekends (Saturday, Sunday)
- 6-Day Operations: Exclude one specific day (commonly Sunday)
- Custom Work Patterns: Hide days that don't align with your business operations
- Seasonal Adjustments: Temporarily exclude days during specific periods
Recommended Workflow
- Start Clean: Set up day exclusions before creating new rosters when possible
- Review Existing Data: Before excluding days, review any existing entries on those days
- Communicate Changes: Inform your team about which days are being excluded
- Test Publishing: Verify that roster publishing works as expected with your exclusion settings
- Test Print: Verify that the Print option works as expected with the exclusion settings
Troubleshooting
Common Issues
Q: I can't see some of my roster entries
A: Check if day exclusion is active. Remove exclusions temporarily to view all entries.
Q: My totals don't match what I expected
A: Totals only reflect visible days. Excluded days and their entries don't contribute to displayed totals.
Q: Template imports aren't working as expected
A: Templates respect day exclusions. Entries won't be created on excluded days, which may affect the template application.
