You can resolve incorrect outside-span-of-hours overtime calculations by updating the award clause configuration for the General Retail Award. These issues typically occur when TAG conditions in the clause conflict with span-of-hours logic, preventing the system from correctly recognising hours worked outside the standard span (9.00 pm–7.00 am).
Remove TAG conditions from the clause
To correct the outside span of hours calculation, update the award clause configuration by removing any TAG conditions.
Navigate to the Outside Span of Hours clause configuration for the General Retail Award.
Review the clause conditions and check if TAGs are used as part of the calculation logic.
Remove any TAG conditions from the clause configuration.
Click Save.
Recalculate the affected pay run.
Verify that the hours now calculate correctly for employees working during the outside span of hours period.
📌Note: When TAGs are applied to award clauses, they can override or conflict with time-based conditions such as span of hours. The system may prioritise the TAG conditions over the actual time periods worked, resulting in incorrect or missing penalty rate calculations. TAGs that refer to specific time periods can prevent the system from properly recognising hours that fall outside the standard span (9.00 pm–7.00 am).
Test the configuration
Before processing the full pay run, test the configuration on a sample employee to confirm all penalty rates calculate as expected.
Select a sample employee's timesheet.
Test the configuration to ensure all penalty rates calculate as expected under the award conditions.
Related symptoms
If you also see unusually high casual loading overtime amounts, this may be a related symptom of the same configuration issue.
⚠️Important: Once you resolve the TAG conflict, both the outside span of hours rates and casual loading calculations should return to expected values.
