STSL rate change from 24 September 2025 - Payment Date and Period End date considerations

Due to the Study and Training Support Loans (STSL) tax change, this explains what to do if your pay period crosses over 24 September 2025.

Updated over a month ago

Scenario 1 - Payment Date and Pay Period End dates of the pay period are before the latest STSL rate change of 24 September 2025

If your Payment Date and Pay Period End dates of the pay period are before the latest STSL rate change of 24 September 2025 (e.g., Payment Date 23rd September 2025 or earlier with a Pay Period Ending Date of 23rd September 2025 or earlier), the CURRENT tax scales will apply to this pay period. No further action needs to be taken.

Scenario 2 - Payment Date and Pay Period End dates of your pay period are on DIFFERENT sides of 24 September 2025

If the Payment Date and Pay Period End dates of your pay period are on DIFFERENT sides of 24 September 2025 (e.g., Payment Date September 24th 2025 or later with a Pay Period Ending Date 23rd September 2025 or earlier), the NEW tax scales will apply to this pay period. This may require us to make a manual adjustment to the Cease Date of the previous tax scale and the Commence Date of the new tax scale in the back end of the system to ensure that the calculations for this pay period are made using the correct tax scales.

If the second scenario relates to you, please raise a case online with our Support Team, as we may be able to update the Cease and Commence dates to reflect the correct timing of your pay run.
